Pura Vida Cottage is a peaceful lakefront escape on Chandler Lake, offering the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure just minutes from Traverse City. Spend your days paddling, swimming, or unwinding by the fire, then enjoy sunset views from the covered porch or deck. This cozy cottage includes private lake access, a dock, and all the essentials for an easy Northern Michigan stay.

Sitting right on the lake with its own private dock, Pura Vida is a comfortable cottage for families, couples, and small groups of up to 6. The cottage has 2 bedrooms, 4 beds, and 1.5 bathrooms — enough room to settle in while still keeping that cozy, up-north cottage feel.

Inside, you’ll find comfortable living and a fully equipped kitchen with what you need to make everything from a quick breakfast to a family dinner. Fresh bed linens and bath towels are provided, along with everyday household and kitchen essentials. We try to provide the things that make it easier to arrive, unpack, and start enjoying your stay.

But the best part of Pura Vida is definitely outside. Step out the door and the lake is right there. Have your morning coffee by the water, spend the afternoon swimming off the dock, grab a paddle and explore the lake, or just find a comfortable spot and watch the water.

We try to make packing easy, too. You shouldn't have to bring your entire house with you just to spend a few days at the lake. Fresh linens and bath towels are waiting for you, and the kitchen is stocked with the basics you'll need for cooking and eating.

And, of course, the biggest things are already here — the kayaks, canoe, paddleboards and other lake gear. Instead of hauling half the garage north with you, you can arrive, unpack, and start enjoying the lake.

Important things to know:

Waterfront safety —

Pura Vida is directly on the lake with an open waterfront and private dock. Children and anyone who is not a strong swimmer must be closely supervised by a responsible adult at all times. Guests are responsible for safely and appropriately using the dock, swimming area, kayaks, canoe, paddleboards, life jackets, and other recreational equipment.

Water equipment —

All watercraft and recreational equipment are provided for guest enjoyment and are used at the guest's own risk. Properly fitted life jackets should be worn while using kayaks, the canoe, paddleboards, and other watercraft.

Pets:

We love animals, but Pura Vida Cottage is a no-pet property, with the exception of service animals as required by law.

The morning views of Chandler Lake was the most soothing nature scape you can ask for in addition to great access to explore the water w/kayaks, a SUP, canoe and row boat. I really wish that I could give this cottage extra *extra* stars! This will by far be 1 of my favorite stays! Headed up for a NYE get away & it was absolutely a perfect winter holiday! The cottage is even dreamier than the pictures. It’s nearly brand new & designed with such creativity, love & care that it feels like home. The cottage is airy & bright, completely sanitized & clean, kitchen fully stocked & made for people who love to cook, towels/linens/blankets are so comfy, and the entire space is welcoming & cozy. It really feels like Rachel & Deb curated the cottage for friends & family and somehow you got invited, too. 🥰 There were 2 of us, so there was room to spread out. The lofted dual level allowed for quiet time to read/write/work & have some solo time while still being together (Wi-Fi is strong & consistent for more than 2 ppl working). The cottage faces a lake and is a few minutes walk from a forest preserve. Morning coffee watching the snow fall on the trees, a quiet stroll down to the lake and an easy hike through Killingsworth Park made for all the best that nature’s wonderland has to offer. Fire pit at night is perfect for stargazing & a nightcap. I can only imagine how much fun it is in the summer! The cottage is a short drive to city center where you will find anything you forgot to bring, need & are curious to try. Outdoor activities are within close proximity- Crystal Mountain about 45 min away for skiers, Boyle approx 1 hr. This cottage is really great AND the hosts are so welcoming & sweet! Communication with Deb & Rachel was prompt, helpful & just downright pleasant! They were so helpful & accommodating. As we were finalizing the reservation, Deb assured me “you’re going to love it” and she was 100% right! I cant wait to go back this summer!

I stayed for 10days for work and my family joined me for part of the stay. For a family of 5 this was a great fit. Kids still had their own space to go to if needed but we could all be together as a family if wanted. Being right on the lake, access to the kayaks and SUP, and especially the water trampoline topped off my family's time at the property. Everything was well thought through for needs for a full kitchen and 1.5 baths. This is a great property that many will enjoy for years to come. My children are already asking if we can go back next year.

My 7 year old son and I stayed for two weeks in this beautiful cottage and couldn't have asked for anything more! The cottage is exactly as shown in the photos and SPOTLESS! The location was perfect for us; it is a quick drive to downtown Traverse City (and many other great spots) but also very private and serene. It was a great place to come back to after a day of activities and exploring. We made use of the canoe, the paddle boards, the kayaks, the BBQ and the fire pit and enjoyed many meals on the front porch. I cooked most of our meals, and the kitchen is beyond well-stocked. It had everything I needed. Deb took us out for one afternoon on her pontoon, and it was one of the highlights of the trip! She is a fantastic host and human - friendly, communicative, helpful and just great to talk to. We plan to come back next summer and rent the cottage again, and we will be counting down the days! Can’t say enough nice words about this place! First and foremost it is so CLEAN! The house is more than a few years old now but walking in it was so clean it honestly felt brand new. We enjoyed spending time outside in the yard, but the hidden jewel is the lower deck down by the lake! We spent so many peaceful mornings down there drinking coffee and watching the wildlife around the lake, and relaxed after a long down drinking wine and listening to the loons. The house is wonderful and cozy and includes anything you would need for your stay. A trip here is well worth it, you won’t be disappointed! We loved Pura Vida for the perfect size home for our family of 6. Our 4 kids fit perfectly upstairs (ages 14,11,11,7) and the house was beautiful. We enjoyed exploring different lakes and swimming in the lake at the house - it was warm and calm! Loved the firepit as well!

We loved our stay at Pura Vida. The cottage and lakeside settings exceeded our expectations. The cottage porch provides a lovely filtered view of the lake, and a few steps down your private walkway is a sitting/dining terrace just feet from the water. A few additional steps leads down to your private dock and waterfront. The cottage itself is relative new and well-appointed. There are a number of beautiful walking and hiking routes nearby, and you can even walk to a good restaurant (Peegeos) and a convenience store (Easy Mart). Traverse City is close by, if you feel the need for some hustle and bustle (and more dining choices), but it is hard to leave the tranquility of Pura Vida's setting.
